About Sandra Reeb-Gruber

On my business card it says “The adventure of life is to learn” (William Arthur Ward) and that is what I believe; life is a learning journey and it can be a fun and exciting adventure. I have always loved to learn, whether in a formal educational environment or completely self-motivated and -managed. My brain, my system, wants input. It wants to understand things, get new insights, make new combinations. And I believe that in essence every human being wants and likes to learn and grow; young children do little else. Not every human being likes formal learning —‘school’— though. I think this can be resolved to a large degree by how we construct education; by making sure that what is taught serves a real purpose from both the learners’ and society’s point of views, and by ‘teaching’ in a way that fits that purpose and the characteristics of the learner and empowers the learners (also in their view).

My mission

As an educational designer my mission in life is to make (formal) learning as enjoyable, useful and effective for people as possible. Not by accepting how things have always been done, but by questioning the status quo and asking critical questions. By finding ways to reshape and change structures and systems that no longer work. Having ‘lived’ in the educational field for 20+ years, I know my way around in educational systems and organisations; processes, regulations, finances, accreditations, etcetera and am capable and enjoy the challenge of designing innovation educational programs within these systems and organisations. Although I would sometimes love to turn these completely upside down, I am aware that they can’t just be ignored. I question and push the boundaries, but don’t necessarily break them.

Are you an educational institutions/department or teacher/lecturer that would like to explore how you can make the experience of your learners more meaningful, effective and enjoyable? Give me a call!
